Nevertheless, plants can grow there. Besides trees and flowers, there are several species of cacti in the Sonora Desert, one of which is called saguaro.
A saguaro cactus can grow up to 15 metres high. It takes 50 years for a saguaro seed, which is the size of a grain of sand, to grow to this size.
